Homesickness Infographic

The above is an infographic I created in my 2nd year information design module. I decided on the topic ‘homesickness’ as I research stated that approximately 30% of students experience feelings of homesickness when they move away for college. The effects of homesickness can be quite severe such as depression, social exclusion and bad grades. I felt as it was aimed at first years it was an important topic to address. The information was sourced from journal articles by Thuber & Walton (2012) and Hack-Polay (2012).

I created every logo myself in adobe illustrator. The design was inspired by the concept of feeling lost and finding your way home, that is why a sign post is the focus and main logo of the graph. The color and background were aimed to signify the night time which is when students miss home the most. This was an enjoyable assignment where I gained experience in:

  • Creating a user persona
  • Wire-framing
  • Prototyping
  • Further illustrator skills
  • Applying research to design
  • Refining ideas and redoing certain aspects of infograph

Sweet infographic, and fair play on creating all of those icons from scratch (the teddy is particularly impressive). Very interesting theme too and one that probably doesn’t really get discussed as much as it should.
